Pittsburgh Steelers Fans Are Spoiled!

I want to go on the record and say that the Pittsburgh Steelers are still my team. I know it would be much easier and less painful to get mad and quit watching them this year. Nothing in the last 5 weeks has showed that they are even going to win another game. It hurts to watch. I know that I’m not on the team and they don’t even know who I am, but Steelers football is still an important part of my life each week. Whether I watch or not will make no difference to any of the players or coaches. But it will make a difference to me. I love football and I love being a Steelers fan. I’m not going to let a losing streak change that.

I have heard callers on the radio and have read other blogs that have said that Tomlin should be fired and that Arian’s is a bum. Tomlin should be fired . . . really? Are you serious? Fired? Listen, I know we want to win a superbowl every year. It’s not going to happen. Remember whenever Cowher had three losing seasons in a row and everyone said he should be fired. He eventually did win a superbowl and everybody loved him. Of course, you can say that someone else would of won two or three superbowls. You will never know what would of happened, maybe someone else wouldn’t of even won one superbowl.

As Steeler fans, we are a little spoiled. We are used to dominating and used to making the playoffs most of the time. We almost expect it, hell, we even think it’s our birthright to win. We have to remember that there are tons of other teams that never make the playoffs on a regular basis, and some hardly ever make it. Look at Detroit, Cleveland, Houston, Kansas City, and many more. What if we grew up following those teams? It sucks to watch the Steelers lose to teams that we know we should beat, but it’s not the end of the world. We won the superbowl last year and we won it six times. Nobody else can say that.

We will snap out of this and start to play real football again. Will it be this year? Probably not . . . but it will happen. I’m choosing to focus on the great times that we have had as fans and looking forward to the great times ahead. We will start to win again, we always do. We’re the Pittsburgh Steelers, we are better than we are playing and better than our record. It didn’t look like that last night, but you have to think that things will turn around. These guys won a championship last year, they are champions, and champions do not stay down for long. So instead of playing armchair quarterback and calling for everyone to get fired or demoted, I’m going to let the champions sort it out amongst themselves.

Here’s a little secret to all that think they know what should be done with this team. They’re not listening. Tomlin is going to coach how he wants and call whatever plays he thinks should be called, regardless of what the latest loud mouthed caller said on the afternoon talk show. That’s how it should be. If our head coach needs advice from yinzerland to get back to winning games, then he should be fired. The truth is that he doesn’t need our advice and even if he did, he wouldn’t ask. All we can do is watch on Sundays and hope for a win. Anything else is just a waste of time. Don’t get me wrong, as fans we have every right to voice our opinion. Just don’t expect much to come from it. Go Steelers!
